TelOne To Migrate From Copper To Fiber Optic

TelOne Chief Executive Officer Engineer Lawrence Nkala has revealed that his institution was contemplating migrating from copper to fibre optic.
Engineer Nkala said this during his address at the Zimbabwe Annual Telecommunications and Exhibition which was organised by AB Communication in Harare yesterday.

TelOne have legacy issues that they battle with the copper cable infrastructure which has been laid over the years in all geographical areas that is prone to vandalism and has limitations in terms of throughput that can be provided by the copper infrastructure.

“Our game plan is to replace the copper legacy infrastructure with a mixture of fibre and wireless access solutions. This has already started if you notice here in Harare, we have some wireless and fibre networks in and outside Harare as well and it will take a bit of time and frustration from consumers’’ he said

Egnineer Nkala also spoke about the need for partnerships and friendly policies that will help in shaping the narrative going forward.

“We do have a clear game plan on transmitting to the latest technology that we will impress and excite our customers,” he said.
