Mobile Phones Repairers Exempted From blitz against duty Evaders, esp Selling clothing, mobile phones, & accessories

Mobile phones repairers are the only shops who have been excused in a blitz targeting those who are not paying duty, especially those who deal with clothing, mobile phones, and accessories.

In a crackdown move across the country, targeting smuggling syndicates and tax evasion practices to boost Government revenue for national development hordes of traders have found themselves stranded voicing concerns about losing clients and struggling to provide for their families due to the uncertainty of when they would be able to resume business after Zimbabwe Revenue Authority Zimra shut down the main unity village flea market in Bulawayo.

An official with the concerned Unity Village confirmed this development also confirming , retail outlets adjacent to the Central Police Station, among others, have also been closed in recent weeks as part of the same operation.

The Unity Village, official said that shops selling phones, and phone accessories, clothing, and kitchenware, had been closed with Zimra making it categorically clear that “those offering phone repair and other services were not being targeted.”

“They are targeting those who are not paying duty, especially those who deal with clothing, mobile phones, and accessories. However, those who repair phones do not seem to be affected,” said the Unity Village official.

“They have instructed us to compile all the stock and submit it to them so they can calculate how much duty is owed.”

Apparently Zimra has shut down Bulawayo’s Unity Village Flea Market
locking up similar structured shops as part of a nationwide blitz targeting smuggled goods and counterfeit products and those who repair phones do not sell
Counterfeit products or smuggled goods hence common sense prevailing in letting only them to continue operating.
