Microsoft has announced its applications and services will stop supporting Internet Explorer 11 by August 2021 with Microsoft Teams being the first app to stop following an announcement earlier in August 2020.

The news follows a drive from Microsoft to encourage users of their apps to change their choice of browser to Microsoft Edge. Hence individuals accessing Microsoft Teams through their browsers will need to transition to Edge to have access to the Teams platform.

Among many other apps to follow is Microsoft 365 that is expected to lose compatibility with Internet Explorer 11 by August 17, 2021, after which all Microsoft 365 applications will be made available on the Edge platform.

Microsoft also plans to upgrade Edge on the Chromium open-source engine which will lead to an end of the older legacy Edge versions by March 9th, 2021

The old Edge version is to be replaced with the rebuilt version with pre-installed Windows 10 version 20H2 among many other features.
