First Capital Bank will host Zimbabwe’s first major padel tournament this weekend, welcoming Men’s and Women’s Doubles teams to Stable Sports in Borrowdale for two days of competition carrying a US$2,500 prize money and a place at a regional final in Botswana.
The Inaugural First Capital Bank Padel Tournament 2026 which runs from Saturday 22 to Sunday 23 August, is open to players aged 18 and above competing in a knockout format.
According to the bank, the competition marks the bank’s latest move into sports sponsorship, extending a strategy it has run for five years through the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open, and applying it to a discipline that combines elements of tennis and squash and has grown rapidly across Europe and Latin America over the past decade.
Speaking to the media ahead of the tournament, First Capital Bank’s Head of Marketing and Communication Fadzai Marova, said the initiative reflects the banks wider ambition for sport as a platform for growth and connection.
“At First Capital Bank, we believe that sport has the power to inspire excellence, unite communities and create lasting opportunities. Our investment in the First Capital Bank Padel Tournament builds on the success of the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open and reflects our long-term commitment to supporting impactful sporting platforms that develop talent, strengthen relationships and position Zimbabwe on the regional sporting stage.”
The weekend will close with a Prize Giving Sundowner & Client Interaction on Sunday, bringing together finalists, clients and partners for the trophy presentation alongside informal networking.
The bank said the competition is designed to build relationships “both inside and outside the boardroom” pairing competitive sport with the kind of access typically reserved for corporate hospitality.
The top two teams in both the Men’s and Women’s Doubles categories will qualify to represent Zimbabwe at the FMBCapital Group Regional Padel Grand Final in Botswana, scheduled for 26–27 September, where they will face the strongest sides from across the FMBCapital Group’s regional footprint.
The bank further said that , teams willing to participate can register for US$30 — US$15 per player through an online form available on:
