Zimbabwe is accelerating its transition to green mobility through an ambitious infrastructure initiative that leverages the country’s postal network to establish widespread electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Underpinned by a strategic partnership with Telco Holdings to modernize postal services and support the digital economy, the project aims to deploy 50 electric vehicle battery swap units utilizing Zimpost’s extensive countrywide infrastructure.

By turning traditional post offices into functional hubs for electric mobility, the initiative addresses one of the primary barriers to EV adoption: the scarcity of reliable charging networks along key national transit corridors connecting major hubs like Harare, Gweru, and Victoria Falls.

To complement the charging rollout, the initiative also incorporates solar-powered sites to ensure clean energy efficiency and introduces a rent-to-buy e-bike program to improve last-mile delivery and logistics for e-commerce services.

This countrywide network is designed to significantly enhance support for businesses, lower operating costs, and empower online traders.

Integrating charging points and digital services into well-established postal locations creates a decentralized framework that facilitates inter-city travel for electric cars and motorcycles, fostering consumer confidence across provinces.

As stakeholders like the Zimbabwe Electric Vehicles Association (ZEVA) push for sustainable transport solutions, the repurposing of postal infrastructure represents a practical milestone.

It promotes green mobility, cuts carbon emissions across urban and rural routes, and directly strengthens Zimbabwe’s emerging sustainable economy.
