ZETDC To Minimise Power Cuts To Promote Digital Future

Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Center (ZETDC) pledges to work hand in hand with the telecommunications companies by securing power to promote the digital future.

Speaking at the Stakeholders Engagement Indaba which was running under the theme “Enhancing Price Transparency and Quality of Service for telecommunication services in Zimbabwe”, Zesa representative Eng Chikera focused on enhancing electricity availability for the telecommunication sector citing out the challenges, initiatives and proposals.

He said, “We are going to provide the telecommunication sector with power to ensure our technological and digital future henceforth lets collaborate and work together to fight the challenges we are also facing that is vandalism of infrastructure”.

Chikera also cited the challenges that they are facing the power utility of Elnino which explains power shortages and decommissioning of Mnyati station which was no longer operating well due to aging.

ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera further acknowledged the Zetdc for its cooperation with the ministry and participation in the indaba which is a critical platform to discuss key issues and she also said she will address the issue of vandalism of infrastructure.

“Transparency is key for us to achieve the telecommunications sector we want and we will work tirelessly to address the issue of vandalism of infrastructure that was raised by Zetdc and come up with a policy”.
