X, formerly Twitter, is transforming how users interact with media on the platform by launching a new AI-powered feature that turns still photos into short, dynamic videos — all within seconds. The tool, which uses Grok AI, allows iOS users to long-press on any photo in their feed and instantly create a video, eliminating the need for third-party apps or manual uploads. According to Elon Musk, Android support is coming soon.
This feature operates under “Grok Imagine,” the creative arm of X’s AI suite, which has recently been made free for all users globally for a limited time. The aim is to streamline content creation and make artificial intelligence feel less like a tech layer and more like a natural part of the social media experience.
Here’s how it works: once the X app is updated, users can simply long-press any image and tap the new “Make video with Grok” option. The image is seamlessly transferred to the Grok app in the background, where AI processes it and renders a video in approximately 17 seconds. The generated video can be paired with one of four available audio tracks and is immediately ready to post or save.
What sets this apart is its frictionless design. There’s no need to download images or open separate editing software. The AI handles everything behind the scenes, effectively turning a casual photo scroll into a multimedia production tool. It’s part of a broader strategy by X to integrate AI into everyday social use, keeping users engaged within its ecosystem while encouraging more visual and dynamic content.
Elon Musk has hinted at even more functionality coming to Grok Imagine, which until recently was a premium feature. Now, with its tools open to the public, X is hoping to position itself as a hub for AI-enhanced creativity in a space long dominated by more traditional video platforms like TikTok and Instagram. While competitors focus on filters and editing, X is embedding generative AI directly into user workflows.
This move marks a continued evolution of the platform beyond microblogging and into a creator-focused space, where tools once reserved for digital professionals are now available at the tap of a finger. By giving users the ability to animate photos instantly, X is not just keeping up with the AI race — it’s trying to redefine how content is made and shared in the social media era.
Whether the feature becomes a daily habit or just a novelty remains to be seen, but it’s clear that X is serious about AI becoming a native part of how we post, create, and interact online.
