Ministry of Tourism and Ndarama Technologies are developing a system to automate Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) llevy collection for hotels, restaurants, and takeaway outlets nationwide. This development is underway because there is currently no way to track 2% remittances from tourism operators through a digital platform that captures sales and remits directly to ZTA. This was revealed at Ndarama Technologies recent launch at Harare Institute of Technology which was officiated by ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera.

The Ministry of Tourism is working with local tech firm Ndarama Technologies to automate collection of the 2% Zimbabwe Tourism Authority levy.

Currently, hotels, restaurants and fast-food outlets are supposed to remit 2% of sales to ZTA. But there is no digital mechanism to track payments.

“The system is coming in to track and do real-time remittances to ZTA,” Maposa said.

The platform will integrate with point-of-sale systems. When a customer buys a meal, the levy will be captured and forwarded automatically.

Officials say the move will increase transparency and boost ZTA’s revenue for tourism marketing.

The project is part of broader government digitization efforts that also include the Citizen Engagement platform launched last month.

From every chicken and chips sale, is a digital cent for tourism.
