The people of Musikavanhu in Chipinge no longer have to travel hours to see a specialist.

NetOne, in partnership with ZimSmart Villages, has launched telemedicine services in the area as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations. The launch was marked with free medical screenings, consultations and the distribution of medicines.

Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Hon. Angeline Gata, who graced the event, described the initiative as a milestone for rural health.

For communities like Musikavanhu that face both geographical and financial barriers, the service is expected to be life-changing. Patients can now access medical expertise through NetOne’s network, with support from trained health ambassadors on the ground.

Speaking for NetOne, PR Manager Ernest Magadzire said the company was evolving beyond its traditional role.

“Our mandate is not simply to build networks. Our mandate is to use those networks to enable national development. We want to be the vanguard of Zimbabwe’s digital economy, ensuring that technology translates into real improvements in people’s lives.”

The telemedicine hub will work alongside community health ambassadors who will do basic checks and help residents navigate referrals or virtual consultations.

The initiative supports Vision 2030’s goal of an inclusive, technology-enabled Zimbabwe and builds on the health advocacy work of First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa.

“For the people of Musikavanhu, that bridge to healthcare is already taking shape,” Magadzire said.
