Harare Gardens turned into a festival of dreams today as 10 EcoCash customers drove away in brand-new cars, marking the climax of the 8th edition of the ChakaChaya neEcoCash Grand Draw.
The colourful finale, attended by thousands of customers, families and entertainment lovers, concluded a nationwide promotion that ran from June and gave away over US$400 000 in prizes.
THE BIG 10
The grand-prize winners, drawn from a diverse cross-section of EcoCash users nationwide, are:
Faceline Beremauro, Tichawona Michael Mutaurwa, Erica Mutimba, Ivy Makura, Happiness Tutsirai Airosi, Blossom Mtembo, Luckmore Tachiona, Nellie Mhango, Darlington Chivero and Tawanda Marovha.
For many, it was life-changing. A car in today’s economy means mobility, income, and dignity.
But the cars were just the headline. Thousands of other customers walked away with solar systems, cash rewards, smartphones, airtime, deep freezers, grocery vouchers and all-expenses-paid trips to Victoria Falls.
Four of the Victoria Falls winners announced at the finale were Botshelo Peter Bagwasi, Mario Pepa, Bibiana Matambo and Ellis Rangiron.
MORE THAN A PROMOTION: A LOYALTY ECOSYSTEM
Now in its 8th year since 2018, ChakaChaya has rewarded thousands with everything from vehicles and livestock to appliances and holidays.
EcoCash said the campaign is deliberate: to thank customers and drive adoption of digital financial services.
“ChakaChaya has grown into Zimbabwe’s biggest consumer promotion because it places customers at the centre of everything we do,” the company said.
“Millions of Zimbabweans use EcoCash every day to send and receive money, buy airtime, pay bills, receive remittances and make merchant payments. Through ChakaChaya, we are thanking our customers and giving them a chance to win prizes that can make a meaningful difference in their lives.”
HOW IT WORKED
The mechanics were simple but powerful:
1. Every US$1 or ZiG equivalent transacted earned 1 point
2. Double points for diaspora remittances and payments via the EcoCash Super App
3. 30 points in a week = entry into weekly draws
4. 500+ points = automatic entry into the Grand Draw
The promotion reached 30+ locations including Bulawayo, Masvingo, Gweru, Mutare, Chinhoyi, Chipinge and Mount Darwin. Weekly draws were independently supervised and winners notified by SMS and on EcoCash digital platforms to ensure transparency.
THE SUPER APP PUSH
This year’s campaign was also tied to EcoCash’s push to expand its digital ecosystem following the launch of the EcoCash Super App.
New registrations and downloads were incentivised through airtime and bonus points — a strategy that deepens financial inclusion while rewarding usage.
For EcoCash, ChakaChaya is not just marketing. It is proof that digital finance, when paired with tangible rewards, can change lives at scale.
