ZIMPOST has just launched the 2026 Post Insurance–Mr. Pace Half Marathon as Zimbabwe’s first fully tech-integrated national race, turning 21.1km of tarmac into a live data laboratory.
This is year 5. And it’s no longer just a race.
Announced this week, the milestone edition replaces clipboards with chips, paper with portals, and guesswork with GPS. The goal: scout talent, collect health data, and prove that sport can be a digital platform for national development.
“Champions are not created on race day,” officials said at the launch. “They are nurtured through discipline, preparation, and now — data.”
The Product: What’s New for 2026
This is what makes it ground-shaking:
1. RFID Timing Chips
Every runner gets a bib with an embedded chip. No more manual timing. The moment you cross the line, NAAZ gets an instant, verifiable result. No disputes. No human error.
2. A National Runner Database
For the first time, ZIMPOST will run digital + USSD + in-branch registration through its 300+ post offices. That means a runner in Mutare with no data can still enter. NAAZ will finally have real data on Zimbabwe’s running talent.
3. Live Logistics Command Center
Water stations, ambulances, and marshals will be tracked in real-time via geospatial mapping. If a runner collapses at 15km, help knows exactly where.
4. Biometric Training for Everyone
The push isn’t just on race day. Organizers want runners to use smartwatches and heart-rate monitors in training. Turn sweat into stats. Avoid injury. Build programs step-by-step.
