Residents of Chikomba West no longer have to travel long distances to see a specialist, thanks to a new partnership between NetOne and ZimSmart Villages.
To mark its 30th anniversary, NetOne launched a Medical Outreach and Telemedicine programme in the area. The project uses NetOne’s network to link rural patients directly with healthcare professionals in real time.
Ernest Magadzire, NetOne Public Relations Manager, said the partnership shows how telecoms can drive social impact beyond airtime and data.
“For 30 years, we have built and expanded the infrastructure that keeps Zimbabwe connected. As we look ahead, our responsibility is to maximise that connectivity,” he said.
The ZimSmart Villages model brings together telecoms, health professionals and community development partners. Through telemedicine, patients in Chikomba West

can now consult doctors, get diagnoses, and receive follow-up care without leaving their community.
The initiative supports Vision 2030’s focus on inclusive development and innovation. NetOne also recognised the role of First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa as Patron of Health for her continued commitment to community wellbeing.

“This is the evolution of connectivity — from simply enabling communication to enabling solutions,” Magadzire said. “When technology is purposefully deployed, connectivity can become a powerful force for social transformation.”
The World In One through NetOne was evident at this Telemedicine event.
