Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Hon. Angeline Gata, has commended NetOne for using technology to bring healthcare closer to rural communities, saying the company’s telemedicine launch in Musikavanhu is proof that digital transformation can improve lives.

The remarks were made during the “NetOne at 30 Medical Outreach and Telemedicine Launch” held in Musikavanhu, Chipinge, this week. Hundreds of residents received free medical screenings, consultations and medicines before the community was officially connected to telemedicine services.

For years, residents of Musikavanhu have faced challenges accessing specialist care due to distance and cost. The new service will allow patients to consult doctors virtually, without travelling long distances.

“This is a powerful demonstration of how technology can improve the lives of Zimbabweans,” Hon. Gata said.

Delivering remarks on behalf of NetOne, Public Relations Manager Ernest Magadzire said the initiative reflects the company’s purpose as it marks 30 years of service.

“At NetOne, we have connected Zimbabweans for 30 years. But as we celebrate NetOne at 30, we are asking ourselves a bigger question: What should that connectivity achieve? If it allows a patient in Musikavanhu to access medical expertise without travelling long distances, that is impact.”

The telemedicine service will be supported by community health ambassadors who will conduct basic health checks, identify concerns and guide patients to referrals or virtual consultations.

The programme is implemented with ZimSmart Villages and aligns with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030. NetOne also recognised First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, Patron of Health, for advocating virtual healthcare.

“As we celebrate 30 years, Musikavanhu represents our broader vision — moving connectivity beyond communication and turning it into a bridge to healthcare, opportunity and national development,” Magadzire said.
