As NetOne marks three decades of connecting Zimbabwe, the company is shifting focus from just providing airtime and data to using its network to solve real community problems.

The latest example is in Musikavanhu, Chipinge, where NetOne launched a Medical Outreach and Telemedicine programme this week. The event, attended by Deputy Minister Hon. Angeline Gata, saw residents receive free screenings before the area was connected to virtual health services.

Hon. Gata applauded NetOne, saying the initiative shows how digital transformation can reach the last mile.

NetOne PR Manager Ernest Magadzire said the company was redefining its role.

“At NetOne, we have connected Zimbabweans for 30 years. But as we celebrate NetOne at 30, we are asking ourselves a bigger question: What should that connectivity achieve?”

The Musikavanhu model combines technology with community support. In addition to telemedicine, NetOne will train health ambassadors to do basic checks and help patients access virtual consultations or referrals.

The project is being done with ZimSmart Villages and is aligned to Vision 2030. It also draws inspiration from First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa’s work as Patron of Health in promoting virtual healthcare for remote areas.

“We want to be the vanguard of Zimbabwe’s digital economy,” Magadzire said. “Our mandate is to use those networks to enable national development.”

As NetOne enters its next chapter, Musikavanhu stands as an example of connectivity with purpose — connecting communities to healthcare, opportunity and empowerment.
