#Breaking: Steward Bank Suspends MasterCard

Steward Bank Zimbabwe today suspended the MasterCard service with immediate effect due to the prevailing foreign currency shortages. The news comes barely days after another Econet Wireless Zimbabwe’s Ecocash suspended the use of the MasterCard outside Zimbabwe.

The Announcement was made on Steward Bank’s Facebook page this afternoon.

“We regret to advise you that, due to the prevailing foreign currency shortages, the bank has, with immediate effect, withdrawn limits on the following cards, MasterCard Titanium, MasterCard Standard Debit and MasterCard Diaspora Cards” reads their Facebook posts.

People can still use their MasterCards outside Zimbabwe should they first prefund it with USD first.

“Customers who still wish to use their cards abroad will be required to prefund their cards in USD or via Diaspora Remittances (for Diaspora Accounts) up to the $10000 regulatory monthly limit. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this variation which unfortunately is beyond our control”
