The Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) has thrown its full support behind the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development’s ongoing efforts to migrate all mining titles to a digital format. ZMF CEO Wellington Takavarasha echoed sentiments recently shared by the Federation’s President, Henrietta Rushwaya, urging all miners to take part in the national digitisation exercise.
Speaking on the matter, Takavarasha commended the Ministry’s implementation of the Mining Cadastre Information Management System (MCIMS), a computerised platform designed to modernise mining title administration in Zimbabwe.
“We commend the Ministry’s initiative to digitise mining title management. The system will improve transparency, reduce disputes, and streamline title administration. We urge all miners to update their mining title coordinates to benefit fully from this digital transformation,” said the ZMF chief executive.
The Ministry’s digital migration initiative is part of its broader computerisation programme aimed at modernising data capture and title management systems in the mining sector.
In an exclusive interview with TechnoMag, Mines and Mining Development Ministry clarified that the digital migration does not require the repegging of claims. Rather, the goal is to integrate all mining title data into the national electronic cadastre system. He warned that any attempts to manipulate or interfere with the process would be dealt with firmly under existing laws.
“The Ministry is finalising the migration to a computerised Mining Cadastre Information Management System to record and manage all mining titles and related operations,” said the Ministry.
The Ministry added that from 1 July 2025, all new and existing mining title applications must conform to the UTM Arc 1950 Coordinate System and Clarke 1880 Spheroid standards. Coordinates must be captured by registered mine surveyors using survey-grade instruments, following best practices at both national and international levels.
A full list of registered mine surveyors is available at provincial mining offices or can be obtained through the office of the Chief Government Mining Engineer, the Ministry added.
The migration to a digital system marks a significant step in Zimbabwe’s efforts to create a more efficient, transparent, and investor-friendly mining sector.
