UN Women and OmniContact lnternational launches Project lgnite To Enhance Digital lnclusion
UN Women and Omni Contact lnternational launched Project lgnite an initiative to empower youth from all corners of the country to bridge digital divide emphasising the need for digital inclusion.
While delivering a keynote address at the launch Permanent Secretary for lnformation Communication Technologies (ICT) ministry Dr Beaullah Chirume on behalf of Hon Tatenda Mavetera said, “Today, we gather to launch Project Ignite, a proactive solution designed to empower our youth and promote economic development,” she said. “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to harnessing the potential of digital technologies to drive positive change and transformation.”
She explained how this initiative focuses on dismantling barriers preventing participation in the digital economy, enhancing digital literacy, and fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
Speaking at the same event, Roy Chimanikire, Deputy CEO of Econet Wireless, echoed the minister’s sentiments, emphasizing the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives like Project Ignite. “We envision a digitally created future that leaves no one behind,” he said. “As a group, part of our DNA is pioneering and innovating, and this project is a testament to that.”
Project Ignite aims to dismantle barriers preventing participation in the digital economy, enhance digital literacy, foster entrepreneurship, and establish innovation hubs and the project aligns with the national ICT policy, gender equality policies, and sustainable development goals.
