Fixed Telephony Subscriptions Experience Modest Growth

0

In a recent quarterly report from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), fixed telephony subscriptions have recorded a modest increase, reflecting ongoing adjustments in the sector amidst changing consumer needs.

According to the report, active fixed telephony subscriptions rose from 300,748 to 300,753, representing an increase of 0.002% in the first half of 2025. This slight growth highlights the ongoing efforts by providers to adapt to market demands and improve service quality.

Several factors contribute to this trend. An increase in remote work and online education has heightened the demand for stable and consistent telecommunication services. Many households are opting for fixed-line connections, which offer reliable internet and voice services, over mobile alternatives. Competitive pricing strategies and promotional offers from telecom providers have also made fixed telephony more accessible to a broader audience.

Despite the positive aspects, challenges remain. The fixed telephony sector still faces significant competition from mobile services, which continue to dominate the market. Additionally, rural areas remain underserved, with many regions lacking adequate infrastructure to support fixed-line services.

Looking ahead, analysts suggest that while growth may be modest, continued investment in infrastructure and technology will be essential. The ongoing rollout of fiber-optic networks is expected to play a crucial role in attracting new customers and retaining existing ones.

In conclusion, the increase in fixed telephony subscriptions, albeit slight, marks an important development for the telecommunications industry. As providers adapt to changing demands, the landscape of fixed-line communication is poised for further evolution in the coming years.
