Ecocash In Maintenance Mode While Zimbabweans Celebrate Mugabe’s Resignation

Millions of Zimbabweans on Zimbabwe’s largest mobile money firm Ecocash endured challenges in making transactions on the platform in the wee hours of this morning.

This was due to a maintenance of the platform which has since been complete.

After dialing Ecocash USSD code *151#, subcribers were greeted with various messages.

Since 12 midnight, many had challenges in buying data using the platform amidst celebrations all over the country and the world that Robert Mugabe resigned. The company was in maintenance mode. .

“Ecocash is currently undergoing maintenance. Please try again later,” Ecocash notified.

One Mntaka Mavis tweeted the notification message he receieved from the Econet company. He was told he was not registered.

“Not registered on network,” read the message.

Ecocash is the largest mobile money platform in Zimbabwe boasting of 6, 7 million subscribers. The company recently launched a facility which seamlessly links Zimswitch connected banks to their platform even if the bank did not link it to theirs.
