The minister of ICT Postal and Courier Services Hon Supa Mandiwanzira said that the commissioned Community Information Centres (CIC) will not be just stand alone internet facilities but connected sites.

Speaking at the commissioning of 9th CIC Commissioning at  Nkulumane Post Office, under the current presidential Youth Interface rallies, Supa said training has already commenced at some centres with large turnouts.

We have started training across 10 community centres which were recently commissioned by the president, In Gokwe more than 100 people turned up for the training.

We have set up free training in Bindura recently which received an overwhelming response and today it has three trainings per day to empower the community.

The minister said that The Nkulumane Community Information centre comprises 39 workstations, gaming services and training facility which has the capacity to take in 20 people at the same time for internet access plus supporting the e-government arm.

“We believe this sets up the basis of e-government centers where people should come to lodge in their applications for e- based services and also more importantly as a base to train our next software developers.

“$7 million is already set to be disbursed towards the development of our young entrepreneurs and through your guidance, we seek your permission to officially launch so we start disbursement of the funds.“

The minister remained confident that the government will still be able to set up the promised 160 community centers as promised when they started and reiterated the same sentiment

“160 community centers will be commissioned before the year ends , and the Potraz board has promised that they will be done before the year ends as we accelerate the program”

The first CIC was launched in Murombedzi, during Webster Shamu era as the minister of ICT and to date the government is still working towards enacting such centers across the provinces and sites.

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority Of Zimbabwe, (Potraz) which administer the USF funds is bankrolling the establishment of CICs, which traditionally have been main post Offices but turning into absolute Zimpost buildings.
