Internet Society Zimbabwe Pushes For Inclusive Internet Access

0

The Internet Society of Zimbabwe is working to advance a technology-driven future focusing on two essential digital pillars: Last Mile Connectivity and Reducing Internet Costs.

Eng. Taurai Nyarufuka, President of Internet Society Zimbabwe remarked that, “We are developing Community Networks throughout the country to ensure inclusive internet access for all citizens, leaving no one behind,” Eng. Nyarufuka stated. A community network is set to be deployed in September this year in Sigola, Esiphezin, and Sihlengeni communities of Umzingwane RDC in Mat South. Local people are being trained to manage the network, ensuring digital inclusion.

“We are addressing the high cost of internet access by implementing peering infrastructure among Internet Service Providers (ISPs),” Eng. Nyarufuka added.

The organization is going to conduct a sector tour to Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) established in Zimbabwe on May 15, followed by a peering workshop at POTRAZ on May 16.

In addition to infrastructure development, the Internet Society Zimbabwe is committed to promoting digital inclusivity. The organization is currently conducting advanced ICT skills training for people living with disabilities in Manicaland Province, specifically in Nyanga, from May 12-16, 2025. This initiative is in partnership with POTRAZ, which is funding the project, while ISOC is facilitating the training.
