From AI To Data Centres: Minister Mavetera Engages Cassava And Google To Power Zimbabwe’s Digital Future

Zimbabwe is seeking to deepen its footprint in AI, cloud computing and data infrastructure following a working visit by ICT Minister Hon. Tatenda Mavetera to tech giants in South Africa.

Minister Mavetera, seen alongside Loretta Songola of Liquid Technologies and Ziaad Suleman of Cassava Technologies, is leading senior officials from the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services on a tour of Africa Data Centres, Cassava Technologies and Google’s Acceleration Centre.

What Was Discussed according to Mavetera’s Facebook post highlights Cassava’s ecosystem: Liquid Connectivity, Liquid C2 Cloud & Cyber Security, Cassava AI Compute, Africa Data Centres Colocation, and Sasai Payments.

According to the Minister, the talks focused on:
– Rolling out an AI Factory model for Zimbabwe with GPU capacity
– Expanding enterprise cloud and cybersecurity* solutions through Liquid C2
– Strengthening digital resilience against cyber threats
– Unlocking PPPs to deliver infrastructure faster

Why It Matters For Zimbabwe, the Africa Data Centres Midrand campus is a flagship facility powering cloud and AI services across the continent. Government says understanding its investment portfolio and operational model will help Zimbabwe replicate similar capacity locally.

“This engagement is about positioning Zimbabwe to benefit from the digital economy. We are not here just to observe, we are here to partner and implement,” Minister Mavetera posted.

The visit aligns with NDS 2 and the National AI Strategy 2026-2030.
