Zimbabwe’s ICT Parliamentary Portfolio Committee is taking steps towards enhancing the country’s cybersecurity landscape, a three-day workshop, organized by the Ministry of ICT, Postal & Courier Services and POTRAZ, kicked off today at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Mutare.
This workshop aims to equip lawmakers with critical knowledge on digital security, cyber threats, and data protection regulations, the lnformation Communication Technologies minister Tatenda Mavetera will the honour the event.
The workshop brings together experts from the Ministry, POTRAZ, and ICT institutions, providing a platform for in-depth discussions on various topics. The sessions will cover cybercrime trends, examining the latest threats and vulnerabilities in the digital landscape. They will also delve into legal frameworks, exploring the existing laws and regulations governing cybersecurity and data protection. Additionally, the workshop will explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, as well as global and local perspectives on data protection policies. The rights of data subjects will also be discussed, along with digital forensics and security hardening best practices for securing digital infrastructures.
As Zimbabwe advances its digital economy and embraces e-governance, cybersecurity and data protection have become top priorities. This workshop sets the stage for a more secure and robust digital environment in the country. By empowering lawmakers with the necessary knowledge and skills, Zimbabwe can better protect its citizens and institutions from cyber threats.
It’s worth noting that Zimbabwe has already taken steps to strengthen its cybersecurity framework. The country enacted the Data Protection Act in 2021, which aims to increase data protection and build confidence in the secure use of information and communication technologies.
