Zimbabwe’s shisha tobacco industry is experiencing a significant surge, with sales reaching 401,705 kilograms worth $13 million since the marketing season began. The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) reports that the demand for shisha tobacco continues to rise globally, driving local production growth.
Cavendish Lloyd Tobacco, licensed by TIMB, has been instrumental in supporting local shisha tobacco production. According to TIMB statistics, the average price per kilogram stands at $3.35, with the highest price offered this season reaching $5.75 per kilogram.
The industry expects to produce around 650,000 kilograms of shisha tobacco this season, up from 399,400 kilograms in 2024 and 101,600 kilograms in 2023. Shisha tobacco farming shows promise in Zimbabwe, with easier cultivation and lower fertilizer requirements compared to traditional Virginia tobacco.
The growing interest in shisha tobacco production is poised to positively impact the sector, with potential for further growth and investment. As global demand continues to rise, Zimbabwe’s shisha tobacco industry is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend.
