Potraz Celebrates International Girls In ICT 

The International Girls in ICT Day was celebrated at Baring Primary School in Mutare to promote technology and digital literacy among girls and women.
The  launch of  SheTech will aid  to bridge the gender digital divide and empower women and girls. The program includes training, mentorship, and exposure to technology and innovation. As part of the program, outstanding students can open up learning, creativity, and innovation opportunities. They will use their new laptops to explore their interests, develop their skills, and achieve their dreams.
Gift Machengete, the director general of the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz), said, “Empowering girls in ICT is crucial for their future careers and the development of the country. Operators should consider gender and location in their activities to address the digital divide”.
The students in tertiary education have the opportunity to receive scholarships to pursue their interests in technology and innovation.
“Receiving this scholarship is a great achievement, and I’m sure the students are thrilled to have been selected. I wish them all the best as they continue their educational journey and pursue their passions in technology”.
Hon Tatenda Mavetera said, “Technology is not just for boys; it’s for everyone. And I want to see more girls like you pursuing careers in ICT, creating innovative solutions, and making a difference in the world”.
Sicelo Dube (STEM lady) said, “I want to encourage you to explore the world of ICT, to learn, to experiment, and to dream big. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it; you can. We need more girls and women in ICT to bring diverse perspectives, ideas, and solutions to the table. We need you to shape the future of technology and to create a better world for all”.
