Omari Reviews Its Transaction Fees

0

After running an aggressive campaign for a year attracting millions of Zimbabwean to send and receive money free of charge, Omari has finally signalled the end of all good things.

Service charges will take effect as of 16 August 2024.

The money transfer service attracted a reasonable market share of millions of Zimbabweans after its inception because no service charges were effected when one used it. Omari is now transitioning to a pricing model akin to industry giants such as Ecocash, OneMoney, Telecash among other mobile money services.

Omari distinguishes itself with a structured fee system tailored for various transactions. For cashing out, Omari imposes a 1.7% fee, while sending money and bill payments incur a 3.3% charge. In contrast, cash-in transactions remain free of charge. This fee structure contrasts with Ecocash and Telecash. Ecocash applies a lower 2.3% fee for registered USD customers sending money, while unregistered users face a higher 4% charge.

As Omari prepares to conclude its generous promotional offer of free tariffs, customers are reflecting on the impact this initiative had on their daily lives. Many expressed gratitude for the financial relief and enhanced convenience during the promotional period. One customer remarked, “Thank you for the mahala promotion. We enjoyed it while it lasted,” highlighting a sentiment shared by numerous others who found the promotion beneficial.

However, as the promotion draws to a close, reactions have varied. Some customers, like the business owner who noted, “Thank you O’mari for the promotion, it really made our business smooth and easier!” are concerned about the return to regular tariffs and its potential financial implications. Others remain optimistic, recognizing the promotional period as a temporary boon that helped offset costs during a challenging economic climate.

– Cash In transactions remain free.
