Zimbabwe’s victory in the Mukuru Four Nations Cup was fueled by Mukuru’s financial technology (fintech) support.Mukuru is a financial technology company that sponsored the Four Nations Cup tournament. MUKURU brand provided financial support to the tournament, and their5 logo/name was included in the tournament’s branding.
Mukuru is aggressively challenging established fintechs like EcoCash, InnBucks, and O’mari in Zimbabwe, transitioning from a remittance-focused brand to a broader local mobile money competitor with its newly launched Mukuru Wallet. While EcoCash maintains market leadership in volume, Mukuru leverages its 3-million-user base and 250+ service points to compete on accessibility, specifically targeting local transfers and bulk payments.
The Zimbabwe Warriors team beat Zambia 1-0 in the final, thanks to an own goal by Kafunti Saisada.
“Mukuru’s fintech support drives Zimbabwe’s 1-0 win over Zambia, a testament to innovation” said a tournament official.
The win marked Zimbabwe’s first trophy in eight years, ending a drought since 2018.
Coach Marian Marinica praised the team’s performance, citing their determination and teamwork.
“It was a very, very tough battle, but we did well” said Marinica.
The victory boosts Zimbabwe’s confidence ahead of upcoming competitions.
Mukuru’s involvement in the tournament highlights the growing role of tech in sports.
“I am happy to have helped my country with the first international trophy in my hand” said Zindoga who made a mark from the bench in the 62nd minute.
The win sparks celebration among Zimbabwean fans, marking a new era for the team.

While not “winning” in terms of displacing EcoCash yet, Mukuru is successfully securing a top-tier position among the new generation of fintech challengers in Zimbabwe, utilizing its extensive agent network to close the gap and its financial muscle by managing to support this 4 nations tournament won by Zimbabwe is proof.
