Featuring a groundbreaking variable-aperture camera system, the custom 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip, a completely redesigned thermal architecture, and deep integration with the new Siri AI, the latest Pro models deliver some of the most substantial generational upgrades in iPhone history.
The headline feature of the iPhone 18 Pro series is its newly engineered 48MP Fusion Main camera, which introduces mechanical variable aperture to smartphones for the first time.
Utilizing six laser-cut blades controlled by a precise rotor mechanism, the camera smoothly shifts across apertures, ranging from an impressive f/1.48 for low-light environments to f/4 for expansive group shots, allowing both casual users and professionals to fine-tune depth of field directly in the Camera app.
Complementing the hardware updates are new Pro controls, giving creators manual access to shutter speed, white balance, and real-time histograms. Apple is also addressing digital authenticity with Apple Reference Image, a feature powered by the new sensor that signs individual pixels at capture, generating an unalterable digital negative to verify photo integrity against AI-generated tampering or unauthorized edits.

Under the hood, the iPhone 18 Pro models are driven by the A20 Pro processor, built on an industry-leading 2-nanometer process. The chip features a 6-core CPU with integrated Neural Accelerators, a 7-core GPU that is up to 40 percent faster than its predecessor, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine boasting a total of 32 AI cores.
To sustain this performance during intensive workloads and gaming sessions, Apple adopted a custom packaging design inspired by its M-series silicon. By placing the memory die side-by-side with the main processor rather than stacking it, engineers decoupled the RAM from the thermal path, attaching the chip directly to a massive, next-generation vapor chamber with triple the surface area of the previous generation.
Connectivity, Battery Life, and Siri AI
The iPhone 18 Pro lineup introduces Apple’s custom C2 cellular modem, which improves upload speeds while consuming 15 percent less energy, alongside the N1 wireless chip enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. eSIM-only variants in eligible regions utilize the liberated space to accommodate larger power cells, pushing video playback up to 36 hours on the Pro and an unprecedented 45 hours on the Pro Max.
iOS 27 And An All New Siri AI
Running on iOS 27, the devices introduce Siri AI, an entirely rebuilt assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. The new upgraded Dynamic Island can now show three Live Activities at once, at the same time continuing to enable Face ID for securely unlocking iPhone 18 Pro models, authenticating purchases, signing in to apps, and more.
