The inaugural Her Digital Edge Indaba, organized by the Internet Society Zimbabwe Chapter under the theme “Equipping Women to Lead the Digital Transformation,” brought together diverse voices to discuss women’s leadership in Information Communication Technologies (ICT) last week.

ICT minister Tatenda Mavetera graced the indaba and stressed that, “We are here not just to talk about technology, but to talk about power — the power to create, to earn, to lead, and to shape the destiny of our nation, Zimbabwe.”

The event highlighted key areas, including digital literacy as a fundamental right, women as creators and innovators, a safe and inclusive digital ecosystem, and women’s leadership in tech and policy. Minister Mavetera further emphasized the urgency of bridging the digital gender divide, noting, “When we leave half our population out of the digital revolution, we are driving with the handbrake on.”

The Indaba brought together prominent speakers, including Mrs. Gladys Chibanda, Vice President of Internet Society Zimbabwe, and Ms. Gloria Zvaravanhu, Managing Director of Old Mutual Insurance Zimbabwe. Together, the participants aimed to build a Zimbabwe where women and girls lead the digital transformation. The event concluded with a shared vision: “Together, we will build a Zimbabwe where women and girls lead the digital transformation.”
