Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has backed NetOne staff joining them in the National Clean-Up exercise today to mark July as “Plastic Free Month”, with management saying environmental responsibility begins with daily action.
Addressing participants during the clean-up which began at NetOne’s Kopje Plaza in the capital, an EMA representative said: “Environmental responsibility begins with our daily actions. It’s not just about grand gestures; it is about the work being done right here, right now, by people like you.”
The official said Plastic Free Month gives added weight to today’s activity, noting that instead of only discussing plastic pollution, staff are choosing to be part of the solution. The clean-up was held under the theme ‘Plastic Free Month – Be Part of the Plastic Pollution Solution’.
NetOne was thanked by EMA for “walking the talk” in observing the National Clean-Up. EMA urged staff to sustain the effort beyond July.
The Environmental Management Agency added,
“Let us all continue to play our part not just today, and not just in July, but every single day in creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for everyone.”
EMA and NetOne marked plastic free month with 5 nationwide Clean-Ups with the State-owned telcos participating in the National Clean-Up exercise today as part of global Plastic Free Month commemorations.
The Environmental Management Agency also told staff the activity demonstrated that “a cleaner world is possible when we take ownership of our spaces”. The exercise is aligned to the month’s theme: ‘Plastic Free Month – Be Part of the Plastic Pollution Solution’.
Officials said the campaign would continue beyond July to support a healthier and more sustainable environment.
NetOne today took Clean-Up to 5 Cities on the first Friday rolling out its monthly National Clean-Up today in Harare, Chitungwiza, Bindura, Masvingo and Hwange, in partnership with EMA and local city councils.
NetOne Public Relations Manager, Ernest Magadzire was represented by Thamsanqa Luphahla who also weighed in saying the programme, started in 2021, runs every first Friday and is part of NetOne’s drive to be a “sustainable partner” to Government through to 2030.
The exercise coincides with Plastic Free Month under the theme ‘Be Part of the Plastic Pollution Solution’.
