Strive Masiwa Econet Founder Honored At Zimbabwe ICT Excellence Awards

Founder of the Econet Group Strive Masiyiwa was recognized for his outstanding contributions to innovation and technology at the Zimbabwe ICT Excellence Awards, the ceremony was held at the Rainbow Towers Hotel marking the revival of the awards after a decade-long hiatus.

The Zimbabwe ICT Excellence Awards celebrated excellence in various categories, including journalism, social media influencing, and ICT industry disruption. ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera emphasized the significance of the awards, stating that they recognize and celebrate outstanding achievements in the field of technology.

“Tonight, we break the decade-long silence of not honoring our telecommunications sector heroes and heroines,” Minister Mavetera said. “These awards foster a culture of excellence essential for both the public and private sectors.”

Mr Masiyiwa was also among eight distinguished individuals awarded the coveted W. E. B. Du Bois Medal at the ninth Hutchins Centre Honours, hosted by the Hutchins Centre for African and African American Research at Harvard University in October this year.

The revival of the Zimbabwe ICT Excellence Awards is a significant step towards promoting innovation and excellence in the country’s technology sector.
