Itel Energy Zimbabwe has launched a pioneering initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, aiming to equip schools in underprivileged communities with sustainable solar power, showcasing corporate social responsibility. The long-term program, which promises a full system donation for every 100 units the company sells, is set to bridge the energy gap and propel the nation’s vision for a digitally-driven education sector.

The initiative began in the Murehwa district of Mashonaland East Province, where Chemhondoro High School became the inaugural beneficiary. The school received a comprehensive 6KVA solar system, a donation expected to transform its daily operations and academic potential.

Speaking to Technomag, Itel Energy’s Sales Manager, Blessed Saidi, outlined the core of the partnership.

“For every 100 units Itel Energy sells, we will donate a full system to a school anywhere in Zimbabwe,” he stated.

To ensure seamless implementation, Itel Energy has also partnered with the installation company, Submarine, ensuring the projects are completed to a high standard.

The solar installation is poised to improve Chemhondoro High’s administrative efficiency and most importantly, foster the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the classroom.

Detailing the technical specifications of the donated system, Mr. Jerry Wu, Itel Energy Regional Manager, emphasized its durability and longevity. He explained that the system features a 6.2 KVA hybrid inverter with an IP54 rating, meaning it is built to withstand water splashes and dust, common challenges in various environments.

“This ensures that the system will last a very long time,” Mr. Wu stated. The inverter is coupled with a 51.2-volt, 100Ah lithium-ion battery, which boasts a minimum lifespan of ten years. Mr Wu also highlighted advanced monitoring capabilities.

“We can remotely monitor this system to make sure that it is always running efficiently and correctly,” he said, adding that a comprehensive five-year warranty backs the entire setup.

According to the company, this initiative is a cornerstone of Itel Energy’s broader commitment to supporting community development through sustainable energy solutions. By providing clean power, the project will also light up computers and internet connectivity, opening a world of information and opportunity for both students and teachers.

As Itel Energy continues its sales, the ripple effect of this corporate social responsibility program is expected to illuminate more schools across Zimbabwe.
