#ZimStartup: Funtech Systems Ups The Game In Training Zim's IT Professionals

Funtech Systems is one of the few institutions that have managed to stay afloat in this dwindling economy. It is a perfect example of a company rising  straight from  the void to become one of Zimbabwe’s leading ICT training academy up to date. This technical academy under review today was founded by Mr. Lyndon Kumire, a renowned technology enthusiast who has a lot to share and inspire all the upcoming young technocrats.

By Cisco Eng. Shingie Lev Muringi

Funtech was established in September 2011 after seeing a advertorial request on Dipleague Adverts where some information technology students where asking for tutors to mentor them on critical areas such LCCI Accounts, Cisco Certifications, and Linux amongst other most sought after ICT qualifications.

Mr Lyndon Kumire would go on to auction his vehicle and went down South to buy two Cisco Routers, one Switch and a console cable from TFI Systems in Rosebank, South Africa to mark the birth of Funtech Systems, a now prolific technical academy which trains over forty IT Professionals in specialized IT fields such as Cisco Certified Networking Associate in Routing & Switching, Cisco Certified Networking Professional, CCNA Security, Linux Server Professional Certification, and several Microsoft Certifications.

Speaking to Mr Kumire during a visit to Funtech, he narrated a very inspiring story on how he started with three students who joined his first class using a sofa and one whiteboard as the only furniture to anchor the little academy in one of Harare’s crowded flats.

“Challenges have been plenty but its been a journey full of grace and hard work. Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve. So, Funtech’s is motto is Having Fun with Technology” said Mr Kumire.

Cisco’s prowess has spread across every telecommunications sector, anchoring Internet Service Provider(ISPs), Mobile Network Operators(MNOs), Internet Access Providers(IAPs) and many levels of organizational ICT infrastructures.

Training Zimbabwe’s upcoming IT professionals to meet those demands has always been Funtech’s main goal. Mr Kumire went on to narrate that the passion aided by creating a hands on experience to help Futench students master the tech concepts has produced great results. The favorable learning environment has seen the academy grow through referrals from former trainees.

Presently, Funtech runs up to 9 classes per week, training employed IT Professionals from leading tech companies such as Econet, Liquid Telecom, and young technocrats who are entering the IT space straight from colleges to sharpen their technological skills.
