Zimbabwe has unveiled a National Cybersecurity Training Programme aimed at equipping an initial 10,000 young people with advanced digital defense skills, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Honorable Tatenda Mavetera announced.

The initiative, launched in partnership with the Cyberus Foundation, a Russian cybersecurity organisation that develops sovereign cyber defense systems and talent pipelines, and the KOMIB Foundation, a Moscow-based body that coordinates international cybersecurity project will focus on developing ethical hackers, cybersecurity analysts, and other digital security professionals to safeguard the nation’s online infrastructure.

As part of the programme, 160 scholarships will be offered to youths across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, opening pathways into a global cybersecurity industry projected to exceed USD 200 billion. Minister Mavetera said the initiative signals Zimbabwe’s shift from being a consumer of technology to a regional leader in digital innovation and security.

“This is about talent, sovereignty, and a secure digital economy for all,” Mavetera said, urging young Zimbabweans and SADC youth to seize the opportunity to shape the region’s digital future.
