Zimbabwe Committed To Sovereign AI And Digital Infrastructure Through Cassava, Google Partnerships: Minister Mavetera

ICT, Postal and Courier Services Minister Hon. Tatenda Mavetera says Zimbabwe is prioritizing sovereign AI capabilities, cloud adoption, and cybersecurity* as part of efforts to build a competitive digital economy.

The Minister made the remarks during a two-day working visit to Cassava Technologies, Africa Data Centres and Google in Midrand, South Africa.

She toured the facilities in the company of senior executives from Cassava Technologies and Liquid Technologies.

Key Areas Of Collaboration
Speaking on the pillars of collaboration, Minister Mavetera said government and Cassava/Google are aligning on:
– AI Factory Strategy: Building GPU infrastructure to support local AI development
– Cloud & Connectivity: Leveraging Liquid C2 and Google for government and enterprise cloud
– Cybersecurity: Developing frameworks for national digital resilience
– PPP Enablement: Creating policy certainty for private sector investment

Data Centres As The Backbone
The delegation also toured the Africa Data Centres facility to assess how colocation, power and connectivity are enabling Africa’s digital growth.

“This is about action. Zimbabwe must be part of, and benefit from, the 4th Industrial Revolution. We are building the foundations today for a digitally empowered tomorrow,” she said.
