Potraz Holds Virgin AGM

After 17 years of regulating the postal and telecommunication sector, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) today held its first ever Annual General Meeting.

This laudable development comes at a time when organisations are grappling with issues of good corporate governance.

The newly enacted board led  by Potraz Chairman Mr Ozias Bvute has heeded sectorial calls to abide by professional industry standards that advocates for transparency and corporate ethics which also saw the announcement of their audited results.

Addressing delegates during their Annual General Meeting, The Potraz Director General, Dr Gift Machengete,  who is now one year inside the  organisation spotlighted topical areas of activitiy which the telecommunicstions regulator focussed on.

On the spotlight were some of the groundbreaking activities initiated by the regulator like Telemedicine, the instalment of Community Information Centres countrywide among others.

It was through the wit of the ICT and Cyber Security ministry that they appointed Bvute as the Potraz Board Chair in August last year.

In his statement while making the appointment, Minister Supa Mandiwanzira sternly ordered the board to be accountable.

Later on that year, the board appointed a no nonense man, Dr Machengete.  It is under the leadership of Mr Bvute working alongside Dr Machengete  that the organisation has aligned itself to good corporate governance practices.
