Mavetera To Appoint Women To Influential Boards

The Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Service Dr Tatenda Mavetera said she is deliberately considering women for influential board appointments as they drive a gender-sensitive ICT ecosystem.

Speaking while addressing participants at the Women in ICT Conference 2024 held in Harare yesterday under the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, she noted

”We as a Ministry are reviewing our board appointment to ascertain that we get more women in ICT. We want the participation of women to get involved in the boards that *were predominantly* all men. The women in ICT Zimbabwe have also started giving support to women who are increasingly taking leadership roles and driving the development and application of new technologies,” said Mavetera.

She added, ”Among the main beneficiaries of this initiative are women and girls from across the country, and as a ministry, we have also done programs where we have women in ICT, where we involve girls and see what they can be able to be to make sure that we catch them young and also have initiatives which will see women get much into ICT.”

The Ministry continues to benefit from the participation of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe (CSZ) in the implementation of the triple ICT policy aiming to look at the measures they should put in place to include more women in ICT.

The CSZ has also participated in a lot of national committees where it was involved in NDS1 strategic reviews, the OPC which is also being sent to drive ICT initiatives.
