Cybersecurity in this era is just as critical as home security, businesses have been told.

Addressing the business community during a business breakfast hosted by Liquid Intelligent Technologies in Harare today; experts said the ideal form of cybersecurity in this digital age could be equated to a heavily fortified structure.
be a heavily fortified structure.

Referencing the Great Zimbabwe monument which is for its massive stonework, the experts said such fortification was the best model for how modern cybersecurity should be in terms of defence depth. (add the stuff about Great Zimbabwe here)

Technical experts who delivered presentations highlighted a 360 framework built on four pillars: Governance, Risk and Compliance to build policies and strategies; Security Assessment Services including vulnerability assessments and penetration testing; Cyber Security Solutions covering all layers; and Cyber Defence Services for day-to-day operations and response.

The seven layers under the solutions framework were listed as data protection, identity protection, network protection, endpoint protection, application security, infrastructure security and cloud security.

The defence in depth principle was illustrated with Great Zimbabwe: the mountains around it provided natural protection, the outer wall without mortar provided perimeter defence, the gateways controlled identity, the inner courts represented application security, dwellings represented endpoint and infrastructure, and the highest points where watchmen stood represented the 24/7 Security Operations Centre and threat intelligence.

The message was simple but clear: just as the forefathers of the country built security into architecture, businesses must build security into digital solutions by design, to make it harder for an attacker to access data.

‘They would have to breach network, steal identity and compromise endpoints — with each layer protected. (UNCLEAR)

The company also highlighted its evolution from Econet Satellite Services to Liquid Intelligent Technologies, now part of Cassava Technologies with five pillars – Liquid Intelligent Technologies for connectivity, Liquid C2 for cloud and cyber security since 2017, Liquid AI for compute and AI factories, Africa Data Centres, and Sasai Fintech, formerly Cassava Fintech.

The company has built over 110,000 kilometres of fibre across Africa and partners with global cloud giants to deliver secure cloud access.
