Zimbabwe is set to host the third installment of the “Machine Learning for 5G” (ML5G) Initiative Mentoring Session, a collaborative workshop organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).
The event, scheduled for tomorrow will run from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM and will be held online.
This workshop builds on the virtual launch of the ML5G Initiative on May 15, 2024, and a follow-up session on September 26, 2024. The upcoming session will kick-start the program’s activities for 2025, providing a clear roadmap for engagement in ITU-driven artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) initiatives.
The mentoring session will highlight opportunities in AI and ML, particularly within 5G technology, and showcase Zimbabwean success stories, including teams that won prizes at Phase 2 of the ITU WTSA Hackathon. Experts will also discuss mentorship, funding, and scholarship opportunities within the ITU ecosystem.
Key discussions will cover:
• Achievements of Zimbabwean teams in AI and ML competitions.
• ITU initiatives and resources available for industry professionals, researchers, and students.
• A roadmap for participation in ITU’s “AI for Good 2025” program.
Who Should Attend?
The workshop is targeted at:
• Academics and students in STEM fields.
• Industry professionals, including startups and network operators.
• Open-source developers and data analysts.
• Policymakers and NGOs working on AI, ML, and sustainable development goals (SDGs).
