Zimbabwe is gearing up to become a leader in the digital economy, driven by a strong focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure to drive economic growth with internet penetration reaching 78,55% and mobile connectivity exceeding 96%.

Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Dr. Tatenda Mavetera mentioned  the development when was speaking at the Zimbabwe Al and Innovation week, today at University of Zimbabwe and she also outlined the country’s vision for a tech-driven future.

Innovation is the engine of economic growth and Zimbabwe has made significant strides with internet penetration reaching 78.55 percent and mobile connectivity exceeding 96 percent”.

She highlighted strides that have been taken towards the goal that includes a robust digital infrastructure that is critical for economic transformation, with internet penetration reaching 78.55% and mobile connectivity exceeding 96%, AI solutions tailored to local needs, such as agriculture optimization and healthcare management, will drive innovation and two mobile network operators offer 5G connectivity, enhancing digital capabilities.

Zimbabwe’s commitment to digital transformation is poised to drive economic growth, empower its people, and solidify its position as a leader in the digital economy.
