Zimbabwe state-owned telecommunications provider NetOne has officially unveiled a new mobile number range starting with the 072 prefix, expanding beyond its traditional 071 series. The operator says the new allocation will afford consumers greater choice, added convenience, and seamless connectivity as demand for mobile services continues to rise nationwide.

The release of the 072 range follows sustained momentum in NetOne’s market trajectory.

According to official sector performance data for the first quarter of 2026 released by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), NetOne maintained a strong market presence, closing Q1 2026 with 4,049,492 active mobile subscribers. While reflecting a marginal 1.27% quarterly dip from 4,101,492 recorded in Q4 2025, NetOne retains a robust customer base exceeding 4 million users within a broader national mobile market that grew to 17.28 million subscriptions.

The launch of the 072 prefix aligns with ongoing sector-wide infrastructure expansion aimed at handling heavy digital demand. POTRAZ reported a 57.28% year-on-year jump in national mobile data traffic to 179.33 Petabytes in Q1 2026, alongside continuous tower deployments including new 5G and LTE base stations.

The new 072 number block provides NetOne with the numbering capacity required to onboard new users, enterprise clients, and dual-SIM connections without straining network resources.

In its official release, NetOne invited customers to visit any NetOne Shop across the country to purchase and register their new 072 lines. The company emphasized that the expansion will help keep Zimbabweans linked to essential economic opportunities, family networks, and digital services.

The prefix expansion could be a strategic step to support Zimbabwe’s broader digital inclusion mandate. As mobile data usage and financial technology integration grow across the country, NetOne’s infrastructure investments and expanded numbering capacity position the operator to sustain its competitive footing in the telecom sector.
