Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has introduced a new data offering dubbed the Vibe Pack, designed exclusively for subscribers aged 25 and below. Accessible via the USSD code *143# under option 8, the product provides high-volume, discounted monthly data to young digital natives.

To enforce the age boundary, Econet leverages Know Your Customer (KYC) records collected during SIM card registration. The network checks the national ID details linked to the SIM card to verify eligibility.

If a subscriber older than 25 attempts to purchase the bundle, the system blocks the transaction with an on-screen notification stating: “Exclusive to 25 years and below”.

However, because verification relies strictly on registered SIM ownership, older users operating line credentials registered under an eligible youth’s ID can still buy the offer.

The Vibe Pack includes three primary monthly tiers, each carrying a 30-day validity period:

  • 15GB for $15
  • 25GB for $25
  • 35GB for $35

The introduction of the Vibe Pack addresses two key market dynamics: shifting consumer demographics and digital empowerment.

Young adults are currently the largest consumer group of internet data, driven by content creation, social media engagement, online learning, and digital freelancing.

By offering a dedicated tier, Econet aims to make internet connectivity more accessible to youth who often operate on limited budgets, while simultaneously securing long-term brand loyalty among the next generation of subscribers.

The Vibe Pack offers a significantly lower cost-per-gigabyte ratio compared to Econet’s standard offerings, such as its Private Wi-Fi, SmartBiz, and SmartSuite packages.

This launch also comes amid heightened competition in Zimbabwe’s telecommunications market. It follows NetOne’s recent rollout of an unlimited, geo-locked internet bundle priced at $60, aimed at heavy home and office data users within designated locations.

By utilizing national ID verification to introduce age-segmented pricing, Econet is setting a distinct strategy in local data tariffs.

If effective, the Vibe Pack could mark a shift toward demographic-tailored mobile service plans across the regional telecom industry.
