#ZimStartups: Sustainability Gala Africa Launches in Zim

About a hundred school pupils thronged Irene Christian College in Harare at the launch of Sustainability Gala Africa yesterday.

Pupils from various schools, high, middle and low density, in Harare participated at a science fair organized by Zimbabwe Science Fair director Knowledge Chikundi.

After exhibiting their projects, most pupils were given participatory certificates with winners earning themselves certificates and trips to Brazil next year in March and South Africa’s University of Pretoria in December this year.

Attendants also comprising of school teachers and parents were entreated to an exciting show performed by Chikundi where he set himself on ‘fire’ among other scientific tricks.

Other projects included Wonders of Nature by Diana Jena, Curbing Dust Pollution by Smolly Msimanga and Tanyaradzwa Chivandire along with Sharon Ramusi’s Electricty conducting solution all from Queen Elizabeth High School.

From Chinhamora High were Eric Makare with his Battery Fan to cool people this summer, Nyaradzo Marowa and her battery alarm which alerts home owners should some thieves break in a house as well as the Multiple Phone Charger by Patience Chonyera.

Faith Kamuzondo from Oriel Girls High exhibited her Solar Jacket for charging mobile phones while her schoolmate Oprah Mukonoweshuro presented their Climate Change project.

There were also video presentations from pupils in South Africa where they presented on The Impact of different grey water on leafy vegetables.

 

Chikundi said they will launch a Zambian version of Sustainability Gala Africa soon.
