Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Dr. Tatenda Mavetera, has unveiled the county’s Draft National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy Framework, the initiative which aims to leverage AI technologies to propel Zimbabwe’s technological, economic, and social development, aligning with the nation’s vision of a modern, digital and knowledge-based economy.
The draft was unveiled today during a Breakfast Consultative Meeting on Zimbabwe’s Draft National Al Policy Framework held today at POTRAZ auditorium, Harare.
“This Policy Framework is not just a document; it embodies our vision of ‘a modern, digital and knowledge-based economy by 2030.
The Strategic Pillars proposed in the Draft Cabinet Paper are designed to foster innovation, enhance digital infrastructure, develop human capital and promote AI adoption across key Sectors of the Zimbabwe economy. By doing so, we aim to create an environment conducive to AI-driven growth while ensuring that ethical considerations and robust data governance are at the forefront of our efforts”.
She added that,”Today’s Consultative Meeting is crucial as it provides us with an opportunity to unpack the Draft Cabinet Paper collaboratively. We have invited you, our esteemed stakeholders, to share your insights and perspectives. Your contributions will be invaluable in enriching this Policy Framework and ensuring it meets the diverse needs of our economy and society.
This development positions Zimbabwe to become a leader in AI innovation, driving economic growth, enhancing social welfare, and ensuring citizens benefit from digital advancements.
