Zimbabwean farmers are set to gain access to real time, AI-driven farming guidance through a new initiative designed to improve productivity and climate resilience.
The program, called “The Farmers’ Bench,” is a partnership between local tech firms Hurudza AI and Paltech Africa, combining artificial intelligence software with solar powered physical hubs in rural areas.
The system provides farmers with tailored advice on crops, soil, weather, pest control, and other critical farm decisions.
Unlike conventional advisory services, the platform works effectively even in low connectivity areas, using edge AI technology to deliver insights without relying on continuous internet access.
Farmers can receive recommendations in multiple languages, ensuring that the information is both accessible and actionable.
Paltech Africa will oversee the installation and maintenance of the solar powered units, while Hurudza AI provides the software backbone, updating the system continuously to reflect changing conditions and emerging challenges.
“The Farmers’ Bench gives smallholder farmers the tools to make informed decisions that can increase yields and reduce losses,” said a Hurudza AI spokesperson. “By bridging technology and agriculture, we aim to strengthen food security and support sustainable farming practices.”
Industry analysts say the initiative positions Zimbabwe as a potential leader in AI-driven agritech innovation in Africa, demonstrating how locally developed technology can address the challenges of rural farming.
