Toyota is set to revolutionise the automotive industry with a massive electric vehicle (EV) push, introducing 10 new fully electric models by 2026 and 15 by 2027. This significant expansion will triple Toyota’s EV lineup, targeting a production capacity of 1 million units per year by 2027.
The Japanese automaker has revealed a range of new electric models, including the Toyota bZ4X, a compact electric SUV with a range of up to 356 miles, and the Toyota C-HR+, a sporty electric compact SUV with a range of up to 370 miles. The luxury electric SUV, Lexus RZ, will also be part of the lineup, featuring a stylish design and advanced features.
Toyota will begin producing its first US-assembled battery electric vehicle, a three-row SUV, in Kentucky, with batteries sourced from its North Carolina plant. The company will also build electric vehicles in Thailand and Argentina, including an electric Hilux pickup model, to cater to local markets. In Europe, three new Toyota electric SUVs will be launched, including the updated bZ4X, C-HR+, and Urban Cruiser.
Toyota’s next-generation batteries will offer double the range of existing models, with some variants expected to achieve over 1,000 km (621 miles) on a single charge. The company plans to introduce solid-state batteries for 2027-2028 model-year EVs, further enhancing range and performance. Toyota’s new EV platform will feature modular designs, giga-casting, and self-propelling production technology to lower costs and increase efficiency.
Toyota aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 90% compared to similar vehicles on the market today. Some models will feature solar roof technology, potentially eliminating the need for regular charging for many drivers.
