Information Communication Technology minister Tatenda Mavetera has announced First Lady Dr. Auxilia Mnangagwa as the patron and ambassador of She-Tech, today during the Girls ln ICT Commemorations at Baring Primary school, Mutare.
She -Tech a newly launched initiative aimed at promoting tech inclusion and participation for the girl child was officially unveiled in Manicaland,but seeks to cover all girls nationwide and inclusivity.
Speaking during the launch Mavetera said, ” Women leaders plays a critical role in shaping girls future henceforth there is need to foster young girls in leadership and technology”.
During that same event, the Postal Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has revealed that 55% of boys are reported to be internet users, compared to 48% of girls.
POTRAZ Director General, Dr. Gift Machengete said that although girls are lagging behind, they are rapidly catching up, indicating that efforts to bridge the gender digital divide, such as the Girls in ICT Day initiative, are yielding positive results.
