Victoria Falls – Tourism development world knows it for the smoke that thunders. Now Victoria Falls wants to be known for the tech that hums.
A meeting this week between U.S. Ambassador Pamela Tremont and Mayor Prince Thuso Moyo put “smarter, greener” tourism on the agenda. According to U.S. Embassy Harare, the talks covered expanded tourism infrastructure and “new doors for American technology and trade.”
What a U.S.-backed upgrade could look like, is the Visitor experience of Cashless park systems, real-time crowd management, AR guides at the Falls, and multilingual digital kiosks. Hospitality will see Smart energy grids for lodges, water recycling for hotels, and IoT monitoring to cut costs and emissions. Connectivity will better airport tech, reliable broadband for digital nomads, and seamless mobile payments for tourists while Sustainability will see Solar microgrids, electric safari vehicles, and waste-to-energy plants to protect the ecosystem that drives tourism.
Victoria Falls City has been pushing for special economic zone status and green city certification. U.S. tech and capital could accelerate both. The Embassy post noted the city “draws travelers from around the globe — and now it’s drawing fresh conversations about U.S. investment and innovation.”
If pilot projects land, Victoria Falls could become Southern Africa’s blueprint for how a heritage site scales tourism without sacrificing environment or community.
