Econet Showcases Smart Tech for Farmers and Communities at Zimbabwe Agricultural Show

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is once again taking centre stage at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS), showcasing a powerful blend of technology and community-driven innovation. The  telecoms and technology provider is participating in the 115th edition of ZAS, which opened today in Harare and runs through the week under the theme: “Building Bridges: Connecting Agriculture, Industry & Community.”

The annual exhibition, widely regarded as Zimbabwe’s flagship agriculture and business event, draws hundreds of thousands of visitors. Last year’s edition alone attracted over 250,000 people and more than 560 exhibitors. For Econet, this platform is more than just an exhibition—it’s a chance to engage directly with customers and introduce real-world tech solutions that can drive economic transformation.

“The Zimbabwe Agricultural Show provides an opportunity to directly engage with hundreds of thousands of our customers, get their feedback by listening to them, and showcase how our products and services are continuously evolving to meet their needs,” an Econet spokesperson said.

Econet is presenting a full spectrum of its innovations, from its flagship EcoCash mobile money platform to its Moovah Insurance range, covering everything from personal and agricultural risks to logistics and business protection. Attendees can explore interactive experiences at the company’s stand, including its latest digital entertainment and gaming offerings.

But the spotlight this year is firmly on Econet’s push into smart agriculture—with the introduction of Smart Water Meters that are designed to help farmers and communities optimise water use.

“These provide real-time data that helps farmers and water utilities manage water resources more efficiently, reduce water waste, improve customer service, and ensure the sustainable use of water,” said the company representative.

The technology promises to be a game-changer. In a country where water efficiency is crucial to agricultural productivity, Econet’s Smart Water Meters align digital innovation with the pressing needs of the farming community.

Independent tech analyst Tafadzwa Moyo believes this kind of innovation signals a shift in how agriculture is approached in the 21st century.

“Agriculture today cannot thrive without technology. Farmers need reliable communication, access to markets, financial services, risk protection – and increasingly, smart infrastructure,” Moyo said. “Products such as Smart Water Meters address one of the most pressing issues for farmers: water efficiency. This is a powerful example of how technology can secure the future of agriculture.”

As Zimbabwe continues to push for economic growth through agricultural development, Econet’s presence at ZAS reinforces how critical digital solutions have become—not just in communication, but in enabling sustainability, resilience, and inclusive growth.
