Liquid Backs VAR Technology Debut at COSAFA U-17 Tournament

0

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system is being implemented for the first time in a domestic tournament at the ongoing COSAFA Under-17 Boys Championship. The technological upgrade, crucial for fair and accurate officiating, is powered by high-speed internet provided by Liquid Intelligent Technologies,

the event’s official connectivity partner.

The tournament, which kicked off on September 11th and will conclude on September 20th, 2025, is hosting 12 nations for a total of 22 matches across two venues: Ngoni Stadium in Norton and Hearts Stadium in Harare. The introduction of VAR marks a major milestone for the region’s football infrastructure, bringing it in line with international standards.

The core requirement for the VAR system is a flawless, ultra-reliable, and high-speed data connection to ensure real-time video feeds are transmitted without latency or interruption. Any delay or dropout could critically disrupt the flow of the game and the decision-making process. Liquid’s role is to provide the underlying digital infrastructure that makes this complex technology viable in a live sporting environment.

Beyond the technical support for officiating, the partnership is also focusing on fan engagement. Liquid Intelligent Technologies is leveraging its social media platforms to run competitions, offering 25 tickets for each match. This initiative aims to make the tournament more accessible to supporters and foster a greater connection between the event and the local community.

The integration of VAR at a youth level COSAFA tournament underscores a growing commitment to developing all aspects of the game in Southern Africa. While the young athletes showcase their talent on the pitch, the presence of advanced technology ensures that the outcomes are determined with a higher degree of precision and fairness, thanks to the critical connectivity support working behind the scenes.
